Create A Non-Toxic Household

Create A Non-Toxic Household

Your house is full of toxic chemicals. Whether intentional, or not. It's important to recognize these toxic, household items and discard. Here are just a few tips to help you get started:

1. Ditch Fragrance

Fragrance is found everywhere, and it's one of the most common toxins in everyone's home. The industry is not required to disclose what ingredients are used to make specific fragrances. This includes your favorite candles, plug-ins, diffusers, scent boosters, and so many more... Take a walk around your house and toss these toxic chemicals.

Natural alternatives include products made with 100% essential oils. Essential oils are derived from plants & botanicals, and contain absolutely no toxic ingredients. In fact, they can offer several health benefits, such as help reduce stress, treat fungal infections, and help you sleep.

To keep your house smelling divine, you can use essential oil candles, diffusers, and even the oils by themselves. Different essential oils offer several different uses. Do your own research to find what works for you.

2. Swap Your Cleaning Supplies

Today's store-bought cleaning supplies are to blame for increased rates of Asthma, Cancer, Reproductive and Developmental Toxicity, Allergies and more...

According to an assessment done by the Environmental Working Group, "more than 2,000 cleaning supplies on the American market have been found to contain substances linked to serious health problems." This is no joke. Toxic to the brain, nervous system, and ultimately our entire bodies, these toxic chemicals are literally being smothered over kitchen counters, toilet seats, and bathtubs.

An easy alternative: Vinegar, Baking Soda, Soap, and Essential Oils.

That's it.

Simply make your own cleaning supplies at home, using simple ingredients. Personally, I use a homemade multipurpose cleaner, using the following:

Combine into a clean spray bottle:
2 cups water
4 tbsp Distilled Vinegar
A few drops of lemon essential oil
A few drops of lavender essential oil

3. Switch Your Beauty & Skincare Products

The cosmetic and skincare industries are a bottomless pit of shit-filled chemicals. You can't even put a mascara on without risking skin cancer.

Pathetic.

Heavy metals, like arsenic, cadmium, chromium, cobalt, lead, mercury, and nickel have been found, by the FDA, in lipsticks and clay-based products. Endocrine-disrupting chemicals like parabens and phthalates, have also been found in these products. According to the Environmental Working Group, they've "also found toxic PFAS chemicals – used in flame retardants and Teflon – in some cosmetics."

Natural cosmetic brands are difficult to find. You won't find anything at your local Target or Sephora. Your research must be thorough, and your options will be limited. But, it's not impossible. See my brand list, below. Several of these brands create natural makeup and skincare products.
